How to Recover Unsaved Word Files On Your PC

Microsoft Office suite is the most essential component of work life. Word is the most overrun tool. Many times while working on a word document we accidentally close the word document without saving it. Word has an auto-save feature, but many times your document doesn’t recover. There are ways through which you can recover your lost word document.


Steps to Recover unsaved Word Files on Your PC

1 Use Auto-Recover Option For Retrieving Unsaved Word Document
Microsoft word has an inbuilt Auto Recover feature. It prepares a temporary copy of your word file while you are working. If you close your word document without saving it, a temporary copy of that document file will be there. All Microsoft versions have this feature.The file location of default auto recover is:

       C:\users\username\appdata\roaming\microsoft\word\

2 Use Auto Save Function For Recovering Unsaved Word Document
Autosave function is only available on Microsoft 2010 and above versions. It is similar to auto recover options. To recover the unsaved document:
1) Click on the file
2) Go to the info option and click on manage versions
3) Select “Recover unsaved document” option.
The file location of default auto recover is:

C:\users\username\appdata\local\microsoft\office\unsavedfiles

Select the document, open it with a fresh word document and save it. However, copies of the unsaved document are kept only for four days and after that, they are automatically deleted.

3 Use Program To Recover Unsaved Word Documents
You can use Yodot File Recovery software to search and retrieve your unsaved word files. You can recover your files including Word, PowerPoint, PDF, Excel, Access etc. On the basis of unique file signature the software search for the file.
1) Download and install the software to your Windows.
2) After installation click on “lost file recovery” option to retrieve the unsaved document.
3) Software will scan the computer and hard disk logical and physical partitions
4) Select physical partition and click “next”
5) The tool will show all the recoverable files, choose the file you want to recover.
6) Using “preview” option you can view the recovered files.
7) Browse the destination location to save the recovered word document on your pc.
